Earth Hour! Vote for a future!
And it's gone! Or does it beginn?
Yesterday from 20h30 to 21h30 (local hour at every spot of earth) we were aimed to switch off the lights and demonstrate that we can make the difference for a common future!
It's really amazing to see how in many cities (most of them located in developed countries) many turned off the lights and made a point. Here in my country, Ecuador, and specifically Quito not that much people did it. I want to believe that they didn't really know about this hole world initiative instead of thinking they didn't care about it. :oS
At home I did switch off the lights and (almost) obligued my dad to turn off the tube (there was soccer game on...lol). We went to the attic to see how many of our neighbours did it too.. and.. none was the answer. The family from across the street had almost every light and every window on! aahhh!!!! Even my aunt, who lives next to my house had her lights on...
Did me and family do the right thing??????
DAMN YEAH! Of course, us being (possibly) the only family in the neighbourhood who did it may be kind of useless, but as said, we did our bit to help and I'm really proud of it. It was also nice when I received a message from a collegue exactly at 21h35: "mission accomplished..!" (thanx a lot Alejandro M.!) that message proved that any attempt to create more consciousness about it is necessary and valid. Also thanx a lot to Andres A. who believes in my crazyness about the environment!
Maybe the next time more fellow quiteños will join and make a difference.
Voici a couple of pics from a city where at least two public buildings went off!
It has to be said that it would have been way better if the street lights and the rest of buildings went also off. But well, we hope next time it will be that way.
